Digital Video Capture - Dropped Frames

I'm dropping frames when transferring from my digital cam
onto my new computer that's running XP Pro. I'm
connected via fire wire and I doubt it's this card as I
have been able to use it just fine for other digital
devices. In fact, it detects my digital cameras just
fine. Also, as an alternative I installed secondary
digital video editing software as the capture software,
but the frames continue to drop on this as well.
Finally, on my older system running on XP Home, I did not
encounter this problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
