The line items in Start> Recent Documents are shortcuts. You can delete any
of these without losing the target object. To delete selectively: Right
click on the item and choose Delete. Or open Explorer to Documents and
Settings\<user>\My Recent Documents, and delete from there.
To clear the list entirely, use Taskbar/Start Menu properties> Start Menu>
Customize. You'll find a "Clear" button in these screens whether you're
using Classic or XP style in the start menu.
With the XP style start menu, you can stop the Recent list from appearing.
Taskbar/Start Menu Properties> Start Menu> Customize. Uncheck option to
show Recent items.
