View Full Version : Windows Explorer - is it this bad?

I have XP Pro at work (newly upgraded from 98SE) and when I
search for file names it takes 5 minutes for a task that took about
30 seconds on the 98-system. I'm searching a network drive
where there are several thousand files. The Win98 "find" function
would work great searching for a six-character file using *7204*
for example. When trying this on XP, it literally takes at least
five minutes. I tried the search on our IT Mgr's computer and
he was dumbfounded by the long search time.

Could MS have screwed up a simple and yet vital search tool
so badly? How could anyone at MS say, with a straight face,
that this product was ready to ship?

Confounded---Steve
