Hi,
I'm seeking some advice on the likelihood of this problem being a hardware
RAM issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 notebook with 512 MB RAM running Win
XP Pro. Over the last couple of months I received occasional application
errors usually when running a few instances of Internet Explorer. For
instance:
The instruction at "0x100162d5" referenced memory at "0x00060000". The
memory could not be "written".
However, the problem now is becoming more frequent and occurring a couple of
times daily. After getting this error, the desktop icons disappear as does
the taskbar and ctl-alt-del causes the task manager to crash with a similar
error. the only solution is to switch the notebook off.
In trying to further narrow down the problem I tried to stress out RAM by
opening multiple instances of lots of Office XP applications and I was able
to replicate the problem, but with different memory reference points, when
RAM usage reached about 330MB. Now once I get the error with one
application, all the other applications produce the same error as does
background applications. Again I have to switch off and on my notebook.
Warranty is about to expire on my notebook and I really need to know whether
this sounds like a software or a hardware problem.
Thanks for your help.
