View Full Version : Internet sign-in page repeatedly opens

Hi,

Within the last week I started with the following problem:
If I am not signed onto the internet I either get my sign-
in page opening or I get the message box stating that the
page I was trying to view is not available off-line and
it asks to select "Connect" or "Work Offline". If I am
signed onto to the internet I get a lot of pop-up adds.
Further, I have noticed a shortcut on my desktop
called "Second Thought" - the properties indicated that
it was created August 18, 2003. It was not listed in
Add/remove Programs. I don't recall seeing it before,
but I'm not sure. Just prior to these problems I
received an error: RUNDLL32.EXE could not find image or
something similar (I don't recall exactly). I only
received this error on a few start-ups. It went away and
the above problems started.

These issues surfaced just after I installed the Blaster
Worm patch from Microsoft......any relation?? My virus
definitions are up to date (Norton's).

How should I delete the "Second Thought" file if it's not
showing up in add/remove programs? It's located
in "C:\Program Files\STC\STC.exe". Does this sound like
a virus or did a virus put this or something other file
on my hard drive?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Greg:
Sounds like you have spyware in your system. One of the free programs that
gets rid of this stuff is Spybot-search and destroy. for a free copy, try
here.

I hope this helps.
Please reply to this string, so others can also help.

Thanks for the advice. Last night I ran Spybot and it did
find quite a few files, etc.. I deleted them, but the
problem still persists.

I forgot to mention that when I shut-down the computer I
get the error: RUNDLL32.exe Explorer not
responding....may not be exact, but close. Then you end
now and loose unsaved data or wait until it's done doing
it's thing.

I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks,
Greg

Well, I updated SpyBot and reran it. This time it found
a file called "Second Thought" which has now been
deleted. All of my symptoms are gone.....I still haven'r
verified the error at shutdown is gone. I'll do that in
a few minutes.

Anyone know what this file is?

Thanks for the help.
Greg
