View Full Version : Phantom Administrator Account

There was a problem when I set up the user accounts on my
Windows XP Home PC. My administrator account is now
called "Administrator1" and I cannot change its name to
plain "Administrator" because the PC seems to think there
is already a user with that name, but when I pull up all
the user accounts in control panel there is no user
account for plain Administrator. (There are also limited
accounts for the members of my family.) I wonder if there
is a hidden Administrator account that I am unable to
access for some reason. Ideally I would like to delete
the hidden account and then change Adminstrator1 to
Administrator. It won't let me create a new account
called Administrator so I could then delete
Administrator1. Any ideas?

Michael;
The default account is Administrator and it still exists, that is why
you can not use the name Administrator..
Once you created other accounts it is hidden.
You are better off leaving it alone except for passwording it.
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Select Administrator then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
From here you can add a password.
To get back, simply reboot.
Additionally use an account with Administrator access only for
Administrator duties.
For all other actions, use a limited account.
Password ALL accounts that have Administrator access.
