This may seem like a silly question but I have often wondered why the
Windows Shutdown menu defaults to the 'Hibernate' choice rather than the
more useful 'Turn Off' choice. I realize this annoyance only requires
one more click of the mouse but still I find it a bit irritating. Is
there a way to tweak the settings so 'Turn Off' is selected automatically?

I had that very same question about a year ago and didn't see a solution in
the newsgroup and was also contacted by someone that was a network
administrator via email about whether I ever found a solution posted.
I read about a software kernel one-click (shut-down icon) but that
supposedly only works with earlier versions of Windows and unfortunately
doesn't include Windowsxp.
Maybe someday one of those brilliant young virus or worm generator geniuses
will post a solution!

At Jeff's suggestion, I installed Karen's Show Stopper which allows you
to create shortcut icons that quickly Shutdown, Power Off, Reboot, Log
Off, Suspend or Hibernate your computer. I now have a Poweroff icon on
my desktop which shuts down Windows with one click. It can't get any
easier than that! Why didn't Microsoft think of this?

I also read about Wizmo. It seems like an interesting program but I
didn't install it.

It's now a moot point but I still would like to know why 'Hibernate' is
the default selection in the normal Windows XP shutdown menu.
