Peter,
I just tried the steps as written and they completed. It took a good five
minutes to copy a working profile on a decently armed machine (AMD 1.1,
768MB RAM and plenty of hard drive space).
To make changes to users' accounts, you need to be logged on to an
administrative account. For my test, I used the default system created
Administrator account.
I had already created account2 and logged on to it once to create the
folders for it. I made this an administrator account since that was the type
of account I would be copying to it.
In System> Advanced> Users> Settings, I selected my original account as the
one to be copied. I selected account2 using the Browse button as the
destination for the copy. There was a warning about existing contents in the
folder would be replaced. I said OK and let the operation proceed.
After a lengthy wait, I logged on to account2. Everything was ready and
waiting - email, favorites, my customized QuickLaunch toolbar. Even the
files from my other desktop were present.
The above should work unless there is a domain involved in your setup or
some type of special networking features that have been added.
You may want to click on Start> Help & Support. Type "Copy Profile" into the
Search box. If you're online, you'll get about 25 results. I used the Copy
Profile selection in the first section of the results as my guide.
The MS Knowledge Base links should cover any scenarios that would need extra
configuration due to network or domain elements. If a work domain, you need
to contact the network administrators to copy a profiles.
Good luck!
