Unable to reproduce here.
Do the two systems have similar hardware?
Clean install of Windows XP, or with an image?

Hi Mike and "nospam,"

I just tried the steps that were listed with my Dell 2350 and got Explorer
to crash 5 times in a row.

As it's an OEM system, I'm presuming that Dell originally installed XP Home
with an image. However, I did a repair install back in October.

Greetings --

It doesn't do it on my systems. You might ask Dell if it's a
peculiarity of their OEM version.

Unable to reproduce here.
Do the two systems have similar hardware?

Hi Mike and "nospam,"

As it's an OEM system, I'm presuming that Dell originally installed XP Home

Greetings --

It doesn't do it on my systems. You might ask Dell if it's a
peculiarity of their OEM version.

Reproducible on my Toshiba Satellite 1800-S204 1 GHZ laptop
with XP PRO and on my EPIQ 2.4 GHZ (PcConnection) desktop
with XP PRO. Both are OEM versions of XP.

I just tried the steps that were listed with my Dell 2350 and got Explorer
to crash 5 times in a row.

As it's an OEM system, I'm presuming that Dell originally installed XP Home
with an image. However, I did a repair install back in October.

So perhaps it's something common to some OEM or imaged
installations? But not all OEM installations, apparently, as my son's
Gateway laptop with an OEM version of WinXP Home isn't affected.
Curiouser and curiouser....

Well, I reproduced it ...sort of. Explorer crashed only when I clicked on a
local drive. It had no effect on my mapped network drives. Icons came back
when explorer reloaded.

Just for kicks, I've been unable to reproduce it on a clean install and on a
sysprep'd install of XP Pro Volume License.

Can anyone check to see if a clean install of an OEM copy does it. Does a
sysprep'd OEM install do it?

I tried this on a Dell Dimension 2350 2.5 Ghz. but could get it to crash.
