using winxp home and i can create restore points and can
see them in
explorer,
but if i should want to restore a point then the system
restore window says
that no points have been made. i have tried switching off
and on restore
and restarting pc each time but no joy. the ms knowledge
base doesnt appear
to have
any solutions to the problem.
any suggestions please.

Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator before using SR.
You may have a corrupt SR file. Turn off System Restore on all drives and
restart the system. This will effectively delete all of the restore points.
Check the System Volume Information folders on all drives to make sure that
all of the files have been deleted and, if not, delete them manually. (These
are Hidden folders, you may need to unhide them in the Folder Options/View
settings) Turn SR back on and create a new check point.
Go to Start/Run, type in services.msc and press OK. Check to make sure
that the System Restore Service is started and set to Automatic.
