View Full Version : URGENT! Did I get old WinXP software from distributor??

I'm an OEM and purchased PN N09-00560 yesterday from my
distributor. It is a three pack of Windows XP Home. It
is supposed to have SP1 installed. The label information
is different than the one I picked up a few months ago and
appears to be an older version. The previous one has the
same part number, but the product description on the box
says: KT with XP Home 3PK W/SP1. The product description
on this newly acquired box says: Windows XP Home Edition
English 3pk DSP 3 OE. The other box is dated: Build Date
10/15/02. This new box is dated: Build Date 4/15/02.
I can't return it to the distributor if I open the box to
see how the CDROMs are labeled. Can someone from
Microsoft let me know if this has SP1 installed?? I'm in
the middle of a new system build and need to install this
software today (Saturday). Distributor is closed until
Monday. HELP please!

Yes, I can download SP1 (in fact I think there is a SP1a
out). But I paid a lot for this 3 pack and would like to
get the latest release. I'll have to download SP1 for
each install of this software. I'd rather return it and
get a fresh release.

It may be that your "distributor" was clearing out his old inventory.
If you did not specifically request XP w/SP1, then download SP1.

Normally, when you place an order, current software should
be delivered, unless noted. You have every right to return
the software for exchange since it isn't what you want. If
it was listed as discounted, special or otherwise the seller
might have a right to more money.
If you MUST TEST the new computer, you could use a your
personal XP CD to install just check basic operation. BUT
DO NOT activate or update until you get the OS you want.

You do not need to download SP1 for every XP installation.
Download SP1 to a folder on your hard drive, then record it
to a CD. Use the CD to install SP1 as an executable file after
installing Windows XP.

Thanks, Nicholas for the good advice.
In looking at my order from the distributor (Synnex) I see
that they have actually shipped a different SKU number
than the one I ordered. Probably not a big deal, but
makes me mad that they would substitute obviously old
product (at the same price as the new). Think I'll take
your advice and load and test with my CDROM that I know
had SP1 and then see what the distributor says on Monday.
That lets me finish the build today and then I can test
everything.
Appreciate your advice!

Build date 10/15/02 , is six months the later and is after SP1 came out
in September. 15 April is months before SP1 was complete
Query it
