Greetings --

Not to put too fine a point on it, you don't.

There is no way to reboot a WinXP PC into Real Mode DOS unless
you've set up a dual-boot system. The WinNT family of 32-bit
graphical operating systems, of which WinXP is the latest generation,
has never used or included MS-DOS. The closest they have is the
Command Prompt window.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT & Win2K, is a pure 32-bit GUI
OS, and does not include or "ride upon" any version of DOS, as did
Win3.x & Win9x/Me. WinXP does include a command-line emulator for
those times when GUI applets are unnecessary/redundant, but it cannot
be started in "DOS mode."

There is a way for running MS-DOS before XP. It involves using a MS-DOS
boot floppy.

Not really - yes, you can run DOS (or any other OS) instead of XP in
this way, but not "before XP" in the sense of running XP on the
shoulders of any run-time changes you may have made in DOS.

IOW, in Win95 and Win98 you could have booted DOS mode, done stuff,
then launched Windows via Win. That you can't do in NT, including XP

You don't, read the instuctions on how to flash your bios, i assume your
using awdflash.
You need to get a boot disk, a windows 98 one will work fine. Once you are
at the prompt take out the bootdisk and insert the floppy with your bios.bin
file on it, type awdflash then a space then the name of your bios file.
eg. awdflash 8rda33a17.bin
That's it.

am using XP if this makes a difference??

No, it doesn't just make sure the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are empty or
non-existent as you can destroy your motherboard if you try to flash your motherboard's BIOS
and do it incorrectly.

Not meaning to sound cruel here, but if you can't read and follow the
manfacturer's instructions on how to do it you really have no business
trying to flash your motherboard BIOS. The people here aren't going to
be able to tell you anything that the motherboard manufacturer didn't
already supply. Find someone who knows something about computers to do
it for you or take it to a reputable tech shop before you damage your
system.

It's not rocket science, but it *is* computer science.

Go to the motherboard or computer manufacturers web site and look for bios
updates for your specific hardware. They will have detailed instructions on
how to flash your bios.
See the link below for more tips.
