hide inactive icons

I want to hide the inactive icons I have checked and
unchecked that option it naver changes. Is there
something else I need to check or is there a file missing.

You may have to wait a bit for the application that is represented by the
icon to become "inactive". I don't know how long that is, although it is
supposed to be a "short time".
