View Full Version : Desktop icon text font color

I do not seem to be able to change the color of the text
under the icons on my Desktop (the icon labels). I can
change the font type and font size, and even make the text
bold or italic. But the color button is greyed out.
Yet, I know of at least two other PCs running WindowsXP
which show a black background around the white label text
(my desired outcome). I DO have it set to Windows Classic
Style, so I SHOULD be able to change it, no?

Nemo,
Try this... Open the display properties window and then hit
the Appearance tab, then on the new window, hit the Advanced
tab and under "ITEM", select Desktop and change that color.
It will then reflect the color you chose.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, that solution
only works when one has a blank ("none") background on the
Desktop. But I have an image as my Desktop background (as
most people do). These two other instances (where there
is a kind of border around the icon text) are both where
there is also an image Desktop background, though.

Hi,
By default in XP, it can't be manually changed. The text changes on its own
from dark to light depending on the color of the background. It is based on
the Desktop color not the Wallpaper. The combo is whether or not you are
using a Wallpaper and what the Desktop color is.
