How do I disable the "feature" of automatically executing
a function if the mouse pointer hovers over an object
(e.g. link, button, menu, menu item, etc.) This is so
annoying and has cost me hours of productivity, esp,
working with excel. fyi, IBM thinkpad laptob, XP with
service pack 1

Control Panel> Mouse: Look for settings that control actions for the mouse
cursor such as "Snap To." If you have hair-triggered mouse buttons, may
want to adjust double click speed as well.

TweakUI for XP: The mouse section has Hover and X-Mouse settings that you
may want to change. Most people dislike having X-Mouse engaged and disable
it.

Folder Options: Single click vs. Double click. These two click styles are
very different. While it can save some clicking, Single click takes a bit
of getting used to. Pointing/hovering is equivalent to selecting. A single
click has the same result as double clicking. Not all applications are
single-click aware. They will default to the standard double click
operations while working in those programs. Any operations outside of the
program revert to single click.

There's a setting in Taskbar and Start Menu settings that relates to mouse
usage in the Start Menu. It should not effect mouse behavior in other
areas: Start Menu> Customize> Advanced> Open submenus when I pause on them
with my mouse. If the box is checked, a momentary pause will pop up a menu.
If unchecked, you need to click to extend the submenu.
