I installed a ADS Instant VideoCD Device to input videos from a camcorder or
VCR and it plugs into a USB port. I plugged it into the front USB port of
my computer and it installed well. I then plugged it into the back USB port
and it comes up as 'New Hardware Installed' and asks to be installed all
over again.
MY QUESTION is once a hardware device is installed in one of 4 USB ports
does it have to be plugged into the same port it was installed in all the
time? Any information is appreciated.
You Guys and Girls on this NG have always been very helpful to us seniors
who are just trying to learn a little about this new technology.

Yes it needs to go into the same physical USB slot that it was installed in.
I found this out the same way you did but with a printer/scanner/copier
combo. Plugged it into a "convenient" USB jack to set it up then went to
move it to a more appropriate jack and had to install it again. <g> Live &
learn.

Yes you cannot move it around. Put a small label on the port connection
so that you know where to plug it in all the time. I have 6 ports and I
have them all labelled so I don't screw up. :-)

Thanks Baker and thanks Hillbilly for the reply. Thought I was doing
something wrong. Guess I am learning the same way as everyone else.
