Stuck in Disk Checking screen

Hi,

I think this happened after a long hang during one of my
game session. Now after booting it goes into the disk
checking screen but I get stuck there, even when the disk
checking is completed. You can hear the windows melody in
the background but the screen doesn't return to the
desktop.

Appreciate any urgent help pls. Cheers.
