View Full Version : Unknown folders in Windows

I don't know how, but 16 unknown folders appeared in C:\Windows, totaling
well over 20 megabytes. They all look like this: $NtUninstallKB21557$,
except that on 13 of them KB is replaced by Q, and the numbers are all
different. All the folders appear in blue, hence they are compressed. What
are these folders for? How did they get there? Is it safe to delete them?
Your help is much appreciated. Best regards, Gedeon

to add to what the Unknown P posted once you delete the folders from
C:\Windows you will not be able to uninstall the corresponding KB or Q
Hotfix. However the item will still be listed in Add and Remove Programs.
Once you delete the folder though you can then click on the item in Add
Remove Programs and it will give you an error and then remove the item from
the list.

Many thanks for your reply. I guess I will leave those files, though I
cannot imagine under what conditions I would want to uninstall Windows
Hotfixes. Regards, Gedeon
