View Full Version : Email problems(Earthlink/Hotmail)

February 6th 04, 08:44 PM
I explained this problem w/ MS Tech. Support & they said
that it was a Windows problem & gave me a Windows Support
#. Windows Support told me to use this MS Newsgroups
Support. I started with an email problem with Earthlink.
After unsuccessfully fixing the problem with Earthlink
Chat Support, I created a Hotmail account. Now I have a
re-occurring "Runtime Error" with Hotmail when no "inbox"
mail is open, which states > "ERROR - A Runtime Error has
occured. Do you want to Debug? - Line: 166 (& line 175) -
Error: TagName is null or not an object." When a Hotmail
message is open I receive a different re-occuring
Script/Debut Error message which asks me to use MS Script
Editor[Design]-(yes/no). In MS Script Editor-both line
166 & 175 state the following: "while (S.tagName!="TD")"
Please help me to get my email working properly. I
have done everything else possible in my means to make
sure that my computer is working properly. Thank
you...Pete

Hotmail is a secure site, requiring that your computer be able to negotiate
SSL protocols when logging in, so any of these third-party applications may
be interfering (as well as hijackware): anti-virus, firewall, anti-spam
tools, "system" tools (NSW, NIS, anything by McAfee). The best approach
would be to disable all of them and, assuming Hotmail then works properly,
re-enable each application in turn, by itself with no others running, to see
which one or which combination is causing the problem. If the machines are
on a network, that's another area to consider when troubleshooting.

Make absolutely certain each machine is fully up-to-date at Windows Update
(and with virus definitions) and that the 5.6 Scripting Engine has been
reinstalled:

If WinXP, look into the Java vs. Java VM situation ("Breaking up is so very
hard to do."): http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
