View Full Version : Help silence my modem!

I hate the sound modems make, and want to silence my
modem. With my old system, I did this by going to 3
different screens and asking for silence. Now I cannot
remember where all those screens are. I mean, who needs to
hear that annoying sound, anyway.
Help, anyone?

Hi Emily,

Go to Start/Control Panel/Phone and Modem/Modems/
Properties/Advanced/ExtraModem/Modems/Properties/Advanced/Extra
initialization commands and type in: M0 (note: that is a zero, not the
letter O).

Control Panel/Phone and Modem Options/Modems Tab/Properties/Modem/Speaker
volume.

I wish I knew why this method did not work, but it didn't.

See your post in the General group.

There I outlined how to shut off the modem speaker in AOL.

I don't like that sound either. I leave mine on so that if by
some chance a dialer installs on my machine I can hear
it dialing out. This has happened to me after my teenage
nephews were on my machine.

Emily,
Control Panel (use Classic View- it is easier in my view)> Phone & Modem =
Options> Modem tab> Select Modem> Properties button> Modem tab> Under =
Speaker Volume> Move Slider to the left to turn off modem speaker.
