The desktop tab is missing from my display properties
(Windows XP Pro Ver 5.1 SP 1) How can I change the
desktop background without this tab. Also if I right-
click on a picture there is no option to save as desktop.
These options used to be available, where did they go?

Maxine,

From: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/background.htm

For the background tab, Windows XP fetches the image files from the =
following paths:

BMP Files from:
C:\WINDOWS=20

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper=20
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\My Documents\My Pictures [& ALL =
THE SUB-FOLDERS]
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application =
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes [* & ALL THE SUB-FOLDERS *]

Coming to the problem: How many pictures do you have in =
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper folder? If the number is huge [such as 50 or > =
], move some to My Pictures or any of the above folders. When the number =
of files is reduced from C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper, XP *might* fetch the =
images from this folder.

I don't know how it happened, but when i go to change the desktop =
background
to a different picture, it points to all the pictures in documents/my
pictures instead of c:\windows\web\wallpaper. How to i point it back to =
the
wallpaper directory?

Thanks,
Maxine
