Hello everyone, hope someone can help me out. I have recently built a new system and installed XP for the first time. I have been impressed with the OS since I was using 98 before. I have a problem with my CD recording. I used to be able to just drag files
and folders into my CDRW drive letter and they would just be copied where I wanted them. If I wanted to edit the files I could open them and then resave but with XP I'm unable to edit and resave them. I have wiped the disk, re-formatted and tried again wi
th no luck. I have even tried a new disk. Is there any way I can disable windows copying software so I can just have Nero 6/InCD as my default copying software or any way I can change the properties of the folders so they are not "read-only" anymore? I hav
e tried altering the properties but when I close and reopen the folkders the read-only is back again even with restarting the pc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

READ ONLY for folders is normal; ignore it - it's not the problem
There can be conflicts between the XP built-in burner and other burning
programs, and the built-in utility is not capable of creating a UDF
drag/drop disk. For more info, take a look at this...

Previously you had a third party 'packet writing' package installed like
DIrectCD or InCD. XP's inbuilt burning does not work that way, but much
more like CD-R techniques and all you can do on a CD-RW is erase the
disk as a whole. Consequently the individual files *are* read only.

Hello Still having troubles with this machine of mine.
The drive is recognised as a recording drive because the
recording tab is there but when I insert a CDRW disk in
the drive reverts to a CD-ROM drive and does not recognise
the drive as what it shoiuld be.
Same as the DVD drive, when I insert a disk in it revertsa
to a CD-ROM drive. I have tried the pages and suggestions
but have not been successful in setting up the drive the
way I want it.
I want to be able to drag and drop files and folders to
the drive and plop them in without all this agro. Can
anyone suggest some program or solution to help me acheive
what I want.
System
Barton 3000 CPU
512mb DDR
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
Liteon XJ-HD165H DVD
Liteon LTR 16102B CD-RW

READ ONLY isn't the issue. See the following for an overview of the
capabilities and limitations of XP's built-in burner. And links to other
burners that will do what you want: UDF packet writing...

The inbuilt software does not support true drag and drop direct to a
CD/DVD. Read http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm
