What exactly does this mean and involve in XP? I got it from Disk Management
and then Properties of my C drive. Someone just told me to disable it
because it will slow me down in the long run.

Personally I think this is one of the largest wastes of system
resources MS has ever come up with.

It may be useful to people who search for files very frequently. So
if you can never, ever remember where you saved a file, it may make
your searches faster. However, I see no reason to slow down my
machine all the time just to make it slightly faster at doing
something I rarely do.
