"User" Interface

I downloaded a standard xp "security" update from the
Microsoft site, and now I can't get to my desktop when I
start up, or when the screen saver times out, without
identifying myself as the "user." As this is a home
computer, not connected to a LAN, and as I am the only
user, this is annoying, particularly because bootup does
not complete until I take this action. Can anyone tell
my how to get rid of this interface, which was not
present when I first loaded xp? Thanks.

Have you checked your install history? If you can identify the update by
number, perhaps you can uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs.

In Control Panel, choose Users. Then choose Change How Users Log On To This
Machine.

Hi John,

This is due to the .Net Framework update. It adds an extra user. In order
to run programs designed with .NET, you'll need the .NET framework installed
locally. However, you can visit any website that uses .NET without having
the framework installed.

To revert the behavior:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Tip:

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
