upgrade

Hello, I bought the software and want to upgrade to home
xp from 98 SE.I bought a used computer without the hard
disk for 98 SE installation. I don't want to lose any of
my files,saved mail,etc when I upgrade, but all I can see
is that I have to have the 98 SE disk to save my files. Is
there anyway to upgrade and save everything without needed
the hard disk. Help. Thanks

If you have 98 presently installed and it is working OK you should not need
the 98 CD. Boot the computer on 98, then insert the XP CD and do a upgrade
installation. You should not lose your data, but you should always back up
critical data before an upgrade.
