Can it be done from within XP after OS install or do I need something like
Partition Magic? Have seen posts from people having problems with PM in XP
and NTFS formatted drives.

You can only partition unallocated space from XP without losing data. If you
need to resized the partition to make space then you will need
partititioning software.

Thanks for the reply, I've used PM quite often in Win98 but was a bit unsure
of using it with XP and NTFS.

Don't forget to use Partition Magic 8.0 or later if you will be
repartitioning an NTFS volume, or creating NTFS volumes, since versions prior
to 8.0 are not compatible with XP's version of NTFS.

### NOTE ###
Any advice I give is MY opinion, formed through trial and error or
thoughtful research. There are millions of ways to do things with
computers. YOUR way may be better. But MY OPINION is still MY
OPINION. I have a right to it, just as you have a right to yours.
If I'm wrong, point out my error, then move on. I try hard not
to be wrong, but I miss it sometimes, like we all do. If you don't
like that, perhaps you should move to Nazi Germany,
where all Neo-Facists get their starts.

Actually the box for 7.0 specifically says it works with XP and NTFS. Also
I've successfully used 7.0 (plus patches from the web) with no problems.
