View Full Version : Replying to Individual in Newsgroup using Outlook, with O.E. as NG reader

I'm using Outlook 2000 sp1 for E-mailing. It's set-up to use Outlook Express 6
as the newsgroup reader (whilst calling itself Outlook Newsreader). I recently
wanted to reply to an individual in a thread. Everything seemed to go okay until
I checked the 'Sent Items' of Outlook. There was an E-mail to the individual,
but none of the text that I'd included was there, only the original newsgroup
message.

Does anybody know what's going on, how to fix it, or has anybody got any
suggestions ?

Thanks in Advance

I think this happens because Outlook is setup to be your default *mail*
client, while Outlook Express is setup as your default *news* client.
When you're sending to the individual, it sees that as mail & not a
newsgroup post, and therefore accesses Outlook rather than Express to
send the mail.

I'm by no means an expert - but I think the only work around is to
change your default mail client to Outlook Express - but this would
change it for everything, not just replies to individuals in newsgroups.

Carly,

I've just checked. Outlook is my default E-mail app. Outlook is also my default
Newsgroup Reader. In fact, what happens is O.E. pops up with a new desktop -
calling itself 'Microsoft Outlook Newsreader' and without an Inbox in the Local
Folders.

I still can't figure out why Outlook only sent the original part of the message
and not the part I added (?)

I might be getting paranoid, but it might have something against me ;-)
