View Full Version : Jumper settings on 2nd HDD?

I have 1 large HDD. Don't know why but I could not install XP with jumper
set to Master in a single drivesystem, kept telling me "no drive found", yet
it went smoothly when set to Cable Select. Would like to know the reason
why and also if I add a 2nd HDD to same IDE channel do I also set it to CS?

As long as your using the correct type of cable. With all 80 conductor / 40
pin cables
I've used I've been able to use cable select.
Is this a Western Digital drive?

"Is this a Western Digital drive?"
How did you know? It's a WD1200JB (120GB). Did some searching on CS and it
seems if m/b, cable and drives support it it should be used. Surprisingly I
discovered that all 40/80 cables are not the same, something to do with pin
28 being grounded or not.

Just guessed fron your statement "master in a single drive system". On all
western digital drives I've used they only worked as a single drive if I
removed all the jumpers on the ms slv cs pins.
Thats nice to know about pin 28, I've been lucky I guess.

Western Digital has different jumper settings for master alone and master
with slave.
