Can someone give me some advice? I am running Win XP and have an
“always on” broadband cable Internet connection. I have
firewall software, etc. During the day if I know I am not going to
use my PC for a while I always shut down at night.
Do you think it is a good idea to just use Standby during the day and
just shut down at night?
What sort of factors should I be taking into consideration?
Kind regards,
Alison

Hi, Alison. This is really a personal preference. I generally don't
recommend Standby because not all computers do well with it. I turn my
computer on in the morning and leave it on until I go to bed, at which
time I turn it off. I don't run any of the other computers during the
day and if they get turned on in the morning by one of my boys, I turn
them off when the kids go to school unless I need a computer running
that particular operating system. XP is very stable, so there shouldn't
be any problem with you leaving it on all day, but you should do
whatever suits you best. XP boots so quickly, that it isn't a big deal
to have it turned off. If you go to work in the morning, then there
isn't any reason to leave your computer on while you're gone, except if
you would like to give the power company more money! ;-)
Kind regards back to you,
Malke
