It sounds like you just purchased faulty PIRATED software (especially if you
only paid $100!). I would return it and demand a full refund. I then would
go to a legitimate reseller and purchase legal copies. The problem is not
Microsoft, it is the scam artists from whom you purchased it.

OUTLOOK does not have a news-reader, if you select to read
news while in OUTLOOK, Outlook Express will open.

You seemingly bought a pirated.

Although I have to wonder why Outlook doesn't do NEWS. That's always driven
me nuts.

Sorry, offtopic (in so many ways).

Because office managers don't want their employees reading
news groups.

That's a common complaint, but one that I've never understood.
Why *should* it do news? There are lots of E-mail programs that
don't do news.

Every program doesn't have to do everything. Nobody complains
that Word or Excel or Money don't do news.

As a matter of fact, I think it's preferable for programs to be
more specialized and do less. If Outlook doesn't do news, that
leaves me free to use Outlook for E-mail, but choose another
program for news, without having to provide disk space for extra
newsreading code in Outlook that I don't use.

Most of your problems are probably not Microsoft's fault as you
suggest.
The cause is most likely bad preparation as well as incompatible
hardware and software.

You are probably better off starting over with a Clean Installation:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/cleanxp.htm
Pay particular attention to step one to verify the computer is ready
for windows XP.

How can you sell Windows XP if you installed it?
As you discovered, you still need it.
Read the EULA you agreed to when you installed Windows XP.

Also make sure your installed copy of windows XP is legal (probably
not since you said you sold it.)
