View Full Version : XP Backup utility question

December 6th 03, 02:35 PM
Setting up XP Home, want to do a back up, no back up file.

Read the KBQ308422, know where it should be
1.. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to
System Tools, and then click Backup. The Backup or Restore Wizard starts...

....Backup not there. Any ideas where I can find the programme? Tried the add
system
components option, not listed. Bit stuck now hence the question.

Thanks in advance

Tony H.

Hi Tony

The backup utility is not installed by default with XP Home Edition. =
You can find it on the XP CD in the valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder - =
double click on ntbackup.msi.

Hi Tony,

Windows XP Professional Edition and XP Home both ship with NTBackup. But
only XP Pro installs NTBackup by default. You can install NTBackup for XP
Home by performing the following steps:

Insert the XP Home CD-ROM.
Navigate to the VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP folder.
Double-click the ntbackup.msi file to install NTBackup.

For OEM Computers:

If the computer you purchased is an OEM (from Dell,Compaq etc), they might
not ship the Operating System CD. (only restore cds).
In that case, you can download ntbackup.msi from here:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

This article describes how to install Backup, which is included on the
CD-ROM in the Valueadd folder. To use Backup, you have to install it
manually.
