Net Send command fails with hlpmsg 2273 Alias?

Hi I and a lot of my collegues who are now running XP are
getting error messages when using the net send command
from the command prompt. I can't seem to figure out what
the problem is, nor find any further documentation about
error message 2273 which talks about alias what ever they
may be.
Can anyone help?

Is the Messenger Service turned off? If so, start it.

Thanks for the tip, I should have posted originnally that=20
I had checked that the messenger service was turned on.
