View Full Version : HD space lost

I had 66.1GB free out of 74.52GB. I installed a very small program that was
at the most of 10MB, and I also downloaded updates to put on a CD. (about
400MB worth) I burned the disk. I have removed all but the most recent
restore points, and I have deleted the updates. I've emptied the recycle
bin. But now I only have 65GB left. I know those restore points eat up a
lot of disk space, so that's why I removed the most recent ones because they
add on quickly. I didn't do anything else except for maybe 60MB worth of
word documents and bitmaps, but I deleted those too. What happened to my
1GB?

If you did not empty the Recycle Bin, it is reserving space to hold on to
some of the files in case you change your mind about deleting them.
Emptying the Recycle Bin may help.

It is also possible that in the process of performing all of your
operations, you ended up requesting more virtual memory. You can check the
root of the drive for a hidden pagefile to see what size it is currently at.
If this is the problem, you can modify the maximum size the pagefile can
become, but sometimes even just rebooting will free up space that is now no
longer needed.

If you deleted files without subsequently emptying the recycle
bin, you didn't free up any space at all.
