Is it possible with windows XP (home and pro) UPGRADE
vesion to install XP on a virgin hard disk (computer) by
just inserting a Win 98/2000/me CD in the CD drive and not
have to install the older version of windows then have to
have the upgrade version of XP write over the old windows?
Thanks in advance,
John

As long as your Win 98/2000/ME disk is a retail version (not OEM), that's
how it's done. Start the XP installation
process and follow the prompts. At some point you will be asked to insert
your disk for the previous qualifying version. At that point you will
insert the Win 98/2000/ME disk which will be read for certain information
which will qualify you for the upgrade. Win 98/2000/ME will not be
installed.
