Hi

I have a 120Gb drive formatted to ntfs and split into 2 partitions. My
understanding is that having two partitions increases system performance. I
also thought it would be worth keeping all my documents on one partition and
the programs on the other to decrease fragmentation of the system drive (ie
C) but I don't seem to be able to move the 'my documents folder to my second
partition. Is it possible?

I cant imagine how long it will take to defrag this drive if it ever needs
it! :(

Thanks
Dave

Right click "My documents." Go to properties. You can change location from
in there.

Just rightclick the desktop icon..

Under properties, hit the 'move' button and choose a different location..

That's it...

Walter..

Something to be aware of...
More and more progs are using the default location under Docs and Settings.
If you move it, they may not find it.
I recently bought and installed MS Flight Sim2004. Nothing I did would make
it work. I had changed MY Docs to another location, and it was looking in
there for files it created in D&S. Just something to think about.

Nope. If anything it probably slightly decreases performance,
since files on the second partition are somewhat farther from the
first, and therefore head movement is slightly increased. The
amount of decrease is unlikely to be significant, and I wouldn't
worry about it, but don't expect a performance gain.

Many people feel that way; others disagree. I won't get into all
the arguments pro and con, but don't assume that there's
universal agreement on the point.
