Windows Updates

Tried more than 6 times over the past year to install
XP SP1 Express and get (After about 25 Minutes)
"Denied Access" and the computer is shut down.
Other times when installing downloaded critical
files I get "windows shutdown because
Remote Proceedure Call was ....terminated".
Appreciate any help.
