Word Processor Program

My Daughter is in her 1st year of college about 4 hours
from us. She cannot seem to find a word processor program
on her computer. I'm not familiar with Windows XP. Is
there any kind of program that will do what she needs.
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Stitch, if your daughter has a computer with Windows XP on it, then she
definitely does have a word processor - sort of.
If she clicks START>>Programs>>Accessories
at or near the bottom of the Accessories list is a program called Wordpad.
Wordpad is adequate for writing papers, as long as they do not need to have
graphics, fancy titles, etc. Wordpad has fonts, colors, cut and paste,
bullets, bold, italic, underline, justification,date & time and tabs.
For a more advanced word processor, then you can choose any program that is
compatible with Windows XP, and purchase it.

Check the computer documentation or contact the manufacturer to see if
a word processor is included.
Some computers do not come with it.

Other than the very basic WordPad, no word processor comes with a
computer.

If she is in college she needs a more powerful word processor:

This is a good package for most people or home use.

Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers
This may be the best for her.
The other is about $100 and this about $150.
Many students find they need Excel and/or Power Point.

Both of those are probably available at the college bookstore.
Have her ask around and see what the instructors and other students
recommend and use.

In any event she needs a word processor immediately if not sooner.

Computer mags often come with a CD that includes the OpenOffice suite. If
she would like a full blown wordprocesser with all the bells and whistles then try
the OpenOffice one. It doesn't cost a cent. If you want to buy her the best
wordprocessor on the planet and beyond, get Corel's WordPerfect.

Of course, ~real~ men use Notepad.
