A month or so ago I installed XP on my wives laptop. It's a dell P3-400 with
a 20gb drive and 512 memory. Unfortunelatley it is running painfully slow.
( upgraded from 98 ) I have defragged the drive, deleted garbage files etc
but to no avail. Anyone have any tips on what I can look for. As a side not
I have two other Dell's both P3-350's with only 256k of memory and they run
great...

Thanks in advance for any help....

Not sure about the sluggish computer, but, unless you live in southern Utah,
you could get busted for bigamy.

Actually in Florida but earlier this month we have a Mormon family move next
door. 7 kids, only 1 wife. It was kind of a letdown actually.....

Jeff;
Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online:
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=IRLFIZTYMWPAZTJWUFJ
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-up
Run Defrag.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:
http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.php
Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)

This may apply if you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 1:

Based on this quote of yours, you could lend him one!
