Fax

I have Windows XP Home and recently I activated my fax in my computer with the fax wizard. I have DSL connection and also I have a fax machine in another room (with different number, distintive ring) where I can receive/send my faxes but since I needed to
received a fax I activated the fax that comes in the computer and now every time somebody calls my telephone , at the third ring , the fax tone activates automatically and I have disable the modem, the fax and still I can't get rid-off this fax tone.
Please help me with this matter. I will appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

1) Windows XP doesn't support Distinctive Ring

2) I don't see how you can have set up faxing on your computer if you
don't have an analogue fax modem installed - you *CANNOT* (as I'm really
beginning to tire of stating) fax via DSL - a DSL 'modem' is not, I repeat
*NOT* a modem - it is a network card. Just as you cannot fax with a network
card, you cannot fax via DSL.

If I understand you right you have a dsl modem and a analog modem that you
use with your fax program. The XP fax is not very good a distinguishing
between a phone ring and a fax ring. I have mine set up to receive manually.
Reset the settings in the fax program and see if that helps. Jym

Open Fax Console, choose Tools / Fax Printer Configuration, then
Devices / Select Modem / Properties / Receive. Set Answer mode to
Manual
