Recently my windows explorer has been unexpectantly crashing at ramdom
times.
under event view it says the shell has unexpectantly stop and explorer was
restart.
i have since attempted to do a windows repair which i completed it and did
all the available updates as welll. Unfortuntly it has solved the problem
where explorer has just crashed and restarted again.
What else could i possibly do to solve this problem
Thanks

Since you haven't given us enough information to make a specific
diagnosis, the following is a guess: random lockups or freezes (if this
is what you mean by "freezing") are usually caused by hardware
problems. Without knowing more about your computer, I can't begin to
guess so here are generic hardware troubleshooting steps:
1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete
temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services
programs from starting with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for
services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs
info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues. B. For hardware issues - 1)
open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) the power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for
the devices you have in the system; 5) test the motherboard with
something like TuffTest from www.tufftest.com. Testing hardware
failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good
parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable
opening your computer, take the machine to a good local computer repair
shop (not a CompUSA or Best Buy type of store).
Good luck,

Sorry for the lack of information.
Im running a amd 2500+ overclocked to 2.24 3200+
on a soltek nforce2 nvida mob. 2x 512mb ram dual channel mode.
GF4 ti4200 graphics card 128mb.
Have AVG pro 7.0, no viruses. Run spybot, nothing found, Run ad-aware
nothing except registry keys that belong to spybot.
ran prime95 torture test 24hrs continous no errors.
ran mem test 86 no errors
temps are all normal. upgraded cooling system just last week because i
thought it was because of the heat. temps were just below 60 degrees C. Now
they are hovering at 49-50 degree's
Dust was cleaned out when installed the new cooling parts.
only thing i can think of is the power supply.
running a 300 V that came with the case where i bought it from was told it
was perfectly fine for what i wanted it for. He has a very good rep with
gamers in our town.
Power states from MB5 are....
CPU Temp : 39° C @ 2024
Pwr Temp: 29° C
CPU Core: 1.63 V
Core 1 : 4.08
+3.3V : 3.22
+5.0V: 4.95
+12V : 11.80
-5V : 4.94
Any other information that you rquire please let me now
Thanks

I have pretty much the same setup, which is new and I am not very familiar
with the components yet. You said you are running in dual channel mode. Is
this automatic or a special setting. If it is a setting, could you tell me
where it is?
I have both Winbond and Nvidia System Utility installed and I am not sure if
this is correct--should I uninstall one of them, or doesn't it matter?

Two thoughts here: 1) ratchet down the overclocking and see if that
solves your problem. You may have good cooling, but perhaps the proc
just can't take it. It happens. It probably is not stable at the level
you've overclocked it. 2) No way is a 300w power supply adequate for
your needs. You need at least 400w. However, before I spent any money,
I'd back off the overclocking first.

Dual channel mode is faster access time for the computer to access the ram.
Dual channel mode is only possible if your mother board allows it.
If you have two sticks of 256mb ram and your mother board has different
colour slots to put your ram sticks in. then you would put the sticks in
that 1 particular colour. Note if you put one stick in the black one and one
in the yellow, then you would not be running a dual channel mode.
This is not a setting you can alter in anyway shape or form. it is just a
hardware setup.

Thanks for that always thought the power to be not sufficient but been told
it was.
Good to get a second opinion.
In saying that. If i did get a bigger PSU would it solve the overclocking
and the ramdom crashes. no point in lashing out $120 for a new thermaltake
420 psu if im going to have same problem anyway
what are your thoughts in this
Cheers

I already gave you my opinion - back off the overclocking first. And you
don't need to spend $120 on a new power supply - just go to PC Power &
Cooling or CoolerMaster or even buy a Hec for an excellent psu.
