This is a known problem with some older machines that
haven't had a BIOS Update since the release of WinXP.

Go and check the website of your mainboard manufacter and
download the latest BIOS update for your mainboard. Make
sure you pay a lot attention that you download the BIOS
made specificly for your model ! If you download and
install the wrong you, you crash your mainboard and that
is a big problem and will cost you either a new BIOS chip
or even worse a total new mainboard. So best thing is to
get someone from your family/neighborhood who knows a lot
about PC's and let him/her do a BIOS update for you.

This usually works fine and WinXP will install normally
after the BIOS update. If you are unsure and don't have a
professional in the neighborhood, don't go for a BIOS
update, you really don't want this to go wrong. Unluckily
I can tell you this out of experience .. just mistaken the
mainboard model by 1 letter and it totally crashed my PC,
needed to get a new BIOS chip for about $25.

Good Luck,
John
