I obviously have picked up a virus ! I am sending
massive amounts of email ( over 1 million yesterday in
one shot ) norton is catching them now , but it
apparently did not somewhere along the line , and they
are still coming in every day all day long !and the email
is still going out ,how do I find it and get rid of it ,
and why do they keep coming back , norton has now stopped
w32gibe ,w32swen , wormautomat.ahb,and a knew one
yesterday , something like blackice !but a complete scan
by Norton ( and others ) say's I have no virus in my
system !and the removal tools I've tried are doing
nothing ( how can they when they say theres no virus
either )Can someone please help ..Robin

Robin;
How do you know mail is going out?
Getting the Emails with the virus tells you nothing about your
computer except that maybe your antivirus is OK since they are being
caught.
Also if you are referring to returned Emails as evidence of mail sent,
that is also part of the Swen virus.
Another computer somewhere may be sending the virus, spoofing your
address as the return address.
The non-deliverables then get returned to the sender, or in this case
you since your address may have been spoofed.
To protect the safety and security of your computer:
Install or enable a firewall IMMEDIATELY, before connecting to the
internet:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283673
Install ALL Critical Updates IMMEDIATELY.
Start/All Programs/Windows Update
Install an antivirus application
Update it weekly
Run it at least weekly

A taskbar of sorts appears when I hit send/recieve it
shows how much going out and how much coming in !I have
installed a firewall specifically for xp pro, and I have
all critical updates, as well as the newest definitions
for Norton! Is there a way to tell if someone else is
useing my email and prevent it ? if thats what the
firewall does , it's not doing a very good job !

Robin;
What is the taskbar like?
Does it say anything that may identify the application?
Is it the Outlook Express task bar?
Check the documentation for the firewall.
Most firewalls are configurable to varying degrees.
Check if you have spyware:
Check this link:
http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.php
Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)
This may apply if you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 1:
