Would anyone be able to tell us how to change the Folder Tasks Menu back to
its default setting?

When opening the "My Pictures" folder, instead of seeing the 'Picture Tasks'
menu, I see the 'Music Tasks' menu. There must be a configuration file or a
registry setting somewhere that can edited ...?

The folder has lost its original customization. Right click on it. Select
the Customize option. Choose to remove the customization. Use the same
Customize menu to add one of the Picture customizing templates back onto the
folder.

You could also use TweakUI for XP to fix the folder. The list of items to
that can be repaired (in Repair menu) includes My Pictures. This tool will
add back the special My Pictures icon.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, the "My Pictures" folder, (also "My Music", "My Videos" and
"My Documents" folders) does not have a 'customize' tab in the properties
sheet, so I cannot select one of the folder types that are available to an
ordinary folder.

* Might there be a way to make the attribute on the Properties Sheet show up
on these special folders? *

Also, using TweakUI for XP restores an icon to the folder, but it still
behaves like a "My Music" folder. (at least, in my case) [even with after
a re-boot]

I have tried copying the photos to a 'new folder', deleting the "My
Pictures"
folder, using the 'customize' properties tab to correct the setting, (on the
properties sheet) and its
works fine. But as soon as I change the name from 'new folder' to "My
Pictures", it reverts
back to the "My Music" behavior.

You're right. My error. They're system folders so don't have the Customized
option.

Not that I know of. But there is a hidden file named desktop.ini that stores
the customization info (see below).

Make a visit to MVP Kelly Theriot's website
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm) She has an extensive section
about shell folders under the letter F. You'll find the info about the
special "My" folders (including some of the customization data needed in
desktop.ini) towards the bottom 1/3 of that page.

Hi,

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Reset All Folders.

That should do it, if not:

One of my special folders (e.g. My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, Shared
Documents, etc) has lost its name, lost its icon, or has the wrong Task Pane
template, how can I get it back?

Thanks again,

I seem to have a very stubborn system. Even copying the desktop.ini files
and replacing them hasn't helped. (Loggin off and on again)

The reset all folders options was one of the first things I tried. If I
call the folder "Myy Pictures", or "My-Pictures" then there is no problem.
Curiously, it seems to be the same with or without an .ini file.

For the interim (until you get this sorted), may I suggest a workaround?
Create a new folder for your pictures.
Customize it.
You'll have that nice photo menu back in the task pane.
Move your pictures to their new home.
