Have Windows XP Home. When closing lid it would always go
into hibernation with no problem until recently.

Now it Hangs when closing the lid with it
saying "Preparing to Hibernate" It stays on with this
message showing. The only thing I can do is hold the off
Button for a few seconds to shut down.

Any suggestions

Hi,

What drivers were recently upgraded?
What software was recently installed or updated?

This problem is normally related to one or the other of these. The solution
is to either rollback the driver, or uninstall the software.

Thanks for your response. No new software has been
downloaded except Window updates. I don't recall any
driver upgrades either.

Any other ideas from anyone?

Hi,

This would include engine or definition updates to antivirus software. What
is happening is that some piece of software is not terminating properly.
"Why" is another problem, it could be conflicts, but more likely it's due to
an update/upgrade that does not fully support the hibernate function.
