View Full Version : Swen or not Swen
Alexandra

Have been getting dozens of those fake Microsoft messages
and returned mail ones every day for some time now. (I
get virus alerts) I don't think I have opened any of the
attachments. Thinking it was Swen I ran the FixSwen tool
which indicated that it wasn't present. My Windows
Critical Updates are up to date, I have a firewall
installed and an anti-virus application with which I do a
full system scan frequently. This has not indicated any
problems. Could I still have Swen? Do I need to worry.
Can't understand why I am getting this stuff when I know
people who are not getting any at all. Could anyone put
my mind at rest, please?
Many thanks

Hi,
You are not the person alone with this problem. There are
hundreds of people getting this fake spam mail and even
my mail box gets flooded with these mails. there is no
other option but to delete them as they arrive without
opening the same. Trying to block them will block all
mails from microsoft.com (this is what my hot mail block
list says) and i cant do that.

Probably the address books of some of your friends are infected.

You can filter the incoming emails based on the message content.
Here is the Outlook Express message rule that I have used for almost a
week now with 100% success. I have this rule as the first one in my
rules sequence:
Where the message body contains 'This is the qmail program'
or 'Undelivered message to'
or 'I'm sorry to have to inform you that I wasn't able'
or 'I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message'
or 'Undeliverable mail to'
or 'all known security vulnerabilities'
or 'Undelivered mail to'
or 'Undeliverable message to'
or 'I'm sorry I wasn't able to deliver your message'
or 'Undeliverable to'
or 'I'm afraid the message returned below'
or 'Undelivered to'
or 'An e-mail delivered to you contained a virus'
Delete it
and Stop processing more rules
Hope this is of some assistance.
Good luck

Hi Ron:
I like your suggestion. A rule I use works really well for me. It deletes
from the server any incoming email that does NOT have my real email address
in the TO or CC line. That stops a lot of spammers/virus spreaders.
Regards.

That would not work for me, as some mailing lists I subscribe to use
the BCC address field.

Yes, I know that is a limitation for many people, especially those running a
business. Luckily it works for me.

Hi,
and how do you make a rule to delete messages from the server?
Any info will be appreciated.

Hi Doc:
That rule stops the email that fits the rule from ever being downloaded to
your inbox.
That rule is included in Outlook Express, so if you are using OE, just click
on TOOLS / MESSAGE RULES / MAIL. Then click on NEW, select "Where the TO or
CC line contains people", click on "contains people" in item 3 and enter
your real email address. Then click on OPTIONS and select the NOT function.
Then click OK, OK. Then select "delete from server". Then click OK.
I think that about covers it. There may be a similar rule in Outlook or
other email programs.
