Can I upgrade from XP Home to XP Professional without any
serious errors invading my system? Is it worth it? The
laptop is brand new and came with XP-Home installed.

Hi Pat,

It depends on what exactly you'd like to do with your new laptop. If you
purchased it to work while away from the office and you need to join a
domain, you'll have to get XP Pro. If you're only going to send email, work
on word docs, and edit a few photos, you don't need it.

Sure. You can use the regular XP Home Upgrade CD.

Do you mean is there risk of problems when you do this? It's the
easiest and most often successful of all upgrades, but that
doesn't mean the risk is zero. It's always prudent to have a
backup of anything you can't afford to lose before taking such a
step.

Nobody can answer that question for you. The two XPs are
identical except that Professional includes a few features
(modtly security and networking) missing from Home. If you need
or want one or more of those features, it's worth it. Oterwise
it's a waste of money. *Most* home users don't need these
features.
