Why so many Disabled services?

In the course of trying to isolate a problem causing internet
disconnection due to RAS Error 678, I examined my Services list. Of
the 89 listed, I was surprised to find that no fewer than the
following 43 of them are 'Disabled'.

I appreciate that circumstances/requirements vary widely. But for a
standalone single XP Home user with no network can anyone advise
whether any of these really should be enabled please?

Hi Terry,

This should never happen. Many of the services below are enabled at
Windows install time and are never disabled (for example the MS
Software Shadow Copy Provider service). If you find how these services
got disabled (third-party apps?) please let us know...

someone clearly disabled them "for you". from the list, it looks like
they (sort of) knew what they were doing, most of those are indeed not
essential. If you review the Black Viper site as recommended, you'll
probably find that your machine has been set up as a "bare bones gamer
configuration" [the right-most column.]

Is there a specific problem you're having?
