MANY people are posting on the issue of their DVD Rom or DVD burner not reading DVDs. The symptoms are the the DVD does not autoplay and attempts to get it to play usually result in a message "please insert disc into drive X:" even though the disc is inse
rted.

After a lot of web searching, I've discovered a workaround that works consistently. Boot the machine with a DVD in the DVD Rom or DVD burner. For that boot, the DVD drive will work normally. Boot without a DVD in the drive and the drive will not read DV
Ds.

This is a workaround only. I still want a fix.

This looks like a bug in the DVD drivers or the OS, more likely the OS since I've used two different drivers without any affect.

Another possibility is that there is something left over in the registry after removing some software or hardware that causes this problem. I recently changed my motherboard from a SOYO dragon lite to an ASUS A7N8X-E. At about the same time, I removed my
CD-RW and replaced with a second DVD-RW.

Anybody out there have any better ideas on a real fix for this problem.
