View Full Version : What's up with XP Internet Connection

I am running a laptop with XP Home edition and sharing an
internet connection another desktop computer via a D-Link
wireless network adapter and router. The desktop is
running Windows ME.

On the laptop, I have set up user password protected
accounts for myself as administrator and one other user.
I have also set up a non password protected "Guest"
account. The other user and Guest have limited rights.

Everything was functioning properly, and then out of
nowhere, for some unexplained reason, the Guest and other
user are now unable to access the internet connection.
On their desktop screen, there is a black "X" overlaid
through the D-Link icon on the taskbar. (Indicating to
me that access to the network card or card slot itself
is somehow being denied).

My account is still connecting to the internet and
working properly.

How can I reestablish priviledges for the Guest and other
limited account user to access the network card.

I have changed the user account to administrator type and
every thing works O.K. Internet access is allowed and
there is no black X through the D-Link icon on the taskbar.
I changed the account type back to limited and got the same
no access situation.

Any info. that can help me straighten this situation out
would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron O.

P.S. I notice that today, Fernando Gomes has posted what
appears to be the same root problem (May 12 2003 6:13 AM).
I also read one from Shelly posted (May 1 2003 4:45 PM) in
the "accessibility" newsgroup complaining of the same
problem......I have also posted my message in
the "accessibility" and "security and administration"
newsgroups. No responses to any of these posts have yet
to be offered......Please help.....Thanks!!!!
