A big problem's just occured with my system today. I turned it on
this morning and went into Windows Explorer. After going into 2
directories the system seemed to freeze up. I had to do a hard reset
in order to get my system up and running again. The same problem has
occurred all day and I have been able to deduce that, after opening up
Explorer and entering a directory, it's cpu usage goes all the way up
to 99%. The only thing I can do in this instance is to have Task
Manager open beforehand, so that I can shut down Explorer when it does
hang.

Now I haven't installed anything new since the system was working
correctly. Antivirus, and Ad Aware both come up clean, so I am at a
loss as to what the problem could be. I can get into the directories
through DOS too, so it doesn't seem like a file system error. I have
tried booting my system in safe mode and the same problem occurs. I
have also found out that the problem occurs when accessing the start
menu. I can get as far as seeing the main programs listing, but if i
go into any folders further than that the system hangs. If anyone
could shed some light on the matter i'd be most grateful. My system
is:

AMD XP2500+
Asus A7V8X-X motherboard
Geforce2 GTS 32MB
512MB TwinMOS DDR RAM
Western Digital Caviar SE hard drive
WinXP Pro (SP1 and fully updated)
